Let us take a dive in and compare these two materials to see which is best for your project. Between the two grades, 1018 carbon steel is the most popular because it is the cheapest steel on the market, in bar form. When compared to 1215, 1018 is usually 10-15% cheaper from a raw material perspective. However, it has machining (plate) 1018 Mild Steel - Eagle National Steel(steel) 1018 Mild Steel Alloy 1018 is the most commonly available of the cold-rolled steels. However, because it has a higher carbon content, it is not as easy to weld. Therefore 1018 is used mostly for applications that may involve welding or require a larger quantity where tensile strength and yield strength is not of the highest importance. 1045 is often selected for product applications that require more strenth than 1018 can provide, such as transmission parts.See more on capitalsteel.netSAE 1018 - Equivalent Materials(steel) SAE 1018 Steel.
